Once again Mother Nature has reared her ugly head at Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group and forced heavy flooding and damage to the grounds. Pumps are being manned 24/7 as we try to drain down the pond on the infield. A big thanks goes out to Pro Quip Rentals in Gorham for their help and support supplying us with a quality pump for us to use. This type of event happens to us on a regular basis, especially in the spring. It’s very sad as some of the problem could be slowed or eliminated if we were able to sure up the river banks.
Speedway 51 is looking at one of its most exciting, innovative seasons that we’ve had in a long time. We have revamped the entire card of racing. Here’s some of what we have done. We have instituted a five race Late Model Series, and it is attracting locals back to the track. It is also picking up drivers from New Hampshire, Vermont and Quebec. We are continuing to hear from teams that are planning to jump on board. The purse is car count based and the purse is solid up and down the finish. We also have a very affordable tire plan.
The Tiger Sportsman have some major changes on board as our rules now are the same as other area tracks and teams will all be running on the same rubber, very exciting for all. How about $700 to win on a Saturday night at Speedway 51? How about the top five paying $700, $600, $500, $400, $300, tenth pays $175, and eleventh on back paying $150. That’s a solid Late Model purse but it’s for the Tiger Sportsman teams, and there is no car count restrictions on the purse. The Tiger Sportsman have a pair of new sponsors for 2019 as Dalton Mountain Motorsports from Lancaster and Berlin, as well as Caron’s Towing will be sponsoring the divisions.
Another major change includes the combining of our Street Stocks and our Cyclone divisions for 2019. Very minimal rule changes for Street Stocks and a solid set of rules for the Cyclones will help make this a very strong class. We are very confident that with a little bit of tweaking here and there that we will have one very exciting class. The Street Stocks will be sponsored by Caron Fabrication of Groveton. Another exciting new adventure will feature a new class called the Bone Stockers. These nearly totally stock vehicles have strict guidelines for both drivers and their racecars. This class is designed for fun and to learn how to race. The Bone Stockers run a semi-regular schedule, and this is one very affordable class. They will be sponsored by White Mountains Community College. The Claudette and Deans Restaurant Daredevils look like they will be having a growth spurt this season as several new faces will be on the track, joining some veterans. If you’re an old time racer, Aaron and Mike Bennett and Steve Patnaude have a treat for you. They are introducing the Veteran Chargers. This division will feature racers from the good old days in 15 laps feature events. This class will race only a half a dozen times in 2019. If you are interested in racing this class, get hold of those three and they will help you out. The final major change of the season is the addition of the Mom’s North Country Powersports Side by Side front-stretch drags. This class for UTV’s is catching on like wildfire. There are five different classes. They will drag race down the front-stretch from turn four to turn number one. Winner stays and loser goes away.
This is just a few of the exciting events planned for Speedway 51 in 2019. Add all the great Kid’s events, plus the giant Transaurus on the 5th of July with fireworks, the Fall Brawl and more and you have the most exciting season of racing and family fun of any race track in the Northeast.
