The Weather Gods gave us a great one this past Saturday night at Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group in Groveton, New Hampshire, and with good weather came spectacular racing. Winners on the night included Corey Mason, MC Ingram, Dean Switser Jr., Kaiden Fisher and Nicholas Ogden.
It was opening night for the Creative Counters, Vermont Solid Surface Late Models but they shook off the winter rust in a hurry. Mike Kenison started on the pole and led the first 21 laps before Brian Mason turned up the wick. Corey Mason raced around the outside groove to take over the point a few laps later and Mike Kenison secured the second spot. The battle for second through 5th was torrid as Bryan Mason was trying to hold back the lions. Marcel Gravel who was driving the Terry Reil #11 because his motor blew in the heats came from nowhere and at the stripe placed a solid third. The top five included Corey Mason, Mike Kenison, Marcel Gravel, Bryan Mason and Doug Laleme. Heat checkers flew for Kenison and Corey Mason. The 75 lap event ran green to checkers.
A solid field of Dalton Mountain Motorsports and Caron’s Towing Tiger Sportsman took to the grid for their 51 lap feature. Pole sitter MC Ingram wired the green to checkers event for his first Speedway 51 victory of the season. It was no easy task for Ingram as he ran side by side with several different challengers throughout the race. Jared Plumley rode the leader’s bumper to second in a near photo finish over Derrick Calkins who rode the outside lane for all 51 laps. Jason Kenison cruised home fourth ahead of Nick Gilcris. Calkins and Gilcris claimed qualifying checkers.
Dean Switser Jr. made it two in a row in the Caron Fabrication Street Stocks as he made a late race pass around runner-up Shawn Hood. Allan Birch returned this week after destroying his car in the turn four wall on opening night and claimed the other podium finish. Jamie Heath and Michael Gooden rounded out the top five. Heath captured the preliminary round.
Kaiden Fisher secured his first ever Claudette and Dean’s Place Daredevil Youth Racers feature as he took the hard fought win over Jesse Laquerre, and Brady Heath. Mekaylah Bowen and Cassie Leonard placed fourth and fifth. Laci Potter dominated the qualifying round.
The all new Bone Stocker division was unveiled with eight cars kicking of their inaugural event. When the dust settled, Nicholas Ogden from Waterford, Maine held off hard charging Eric Barrup and Patrick Lacoss to go down in the history book as the very first feature winner. Dan Stinson and Dylan Tester completed the top five.
Speedway 51 is right back in action this coming Saturday night as the Granite State Pro Stock Series invades the tight quarter mile bull-ring for a 100 lap main event. Joining the GSPSS will be the always exciting Tiger Sportsman, Street Stocks, Daredevils and UTV Side By Side Front Stretch Drags. Post time is 6pm.
