Race teams and race fans were forced to wait an extra day due to persistent rain showers, but it was all worth it as Sundays race event was a fantastic show at Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group in Groveton, New Hampshire. Winners included Dave Helliwell, Nick Gilcris, Brandon Gray, Kaiden Fisher and Greg Martin.
It was the first trip to Speedway 51 for the 350 S.M.A.C. Super Modified Tour and what a performance they put on. In Saturday’s practice they were turning times in the low 11.3 second range, destroying the old record of 12.9 seconds scored by Randy Potter in a Late Model. Dave Helliwell scored an impressive win over a solid fifteen car field. Jeffrey Battle stayed with Helliwell until 12 laps to go when he bobbled in turns one and two thus letting Helliwell open up some space and cruise to the win. Third through fifth went to Billy Osborne, Mike Collins and Sparky MacIver. Heat checkers flew for Les Keyser and Jim Storace.
Nick Gilcris put on a bonsai charge in the outside groove with six laps to go and nipped race leader Kevin Boutin by less than a foot to claim his first Dalton Mountain Motorsports / Caron’s Towing Tiger Sportsman win of the year. Kevin Boutin drove a great race and finished second ahead of Derrick Calkins, Jared Plumley and Brad Bushey. Boutin won the preliminary round.
Brandon Gray scored a popular win over Alan Birch, Jamie Heath, Kaiden Fisher, and Josh Plumley in the Caron Fabrication Street Stocks. Gray also captured the heat win.
Kaiden Fisher started his day win a romp in the Claudette & Dean’s Place Daredevils. He ran and hid from Cassi Leonard, Laci Potter and Luke Peters. Fisher also won his heat race.
Greg Martin held off newcomer Josh Riley for his second win of the season in an exciting White Mountains Community College Bone Stocks feature. Dan Stimson, point leader Nick Ogden and Marty Barrup completed the top five. Brendon Rhoades and Martin won their respective heat races.
